We are delighted to announce we have secured a renewal of our groundworks contract to facilitate maintenance and upgrades of underground infrastructure for Britain’s largest electricity distributor, UK Power Networks.
We fought off stiff competition from over 40 other firms to secure the contract which covers planned and responsive excavation services to cover faults, small services and unmetered connections (UMC).
The contract, includes all three of UK Power Network’s operating regions – London Power Network, Eastern Power Network and Southern Power Network covering nearly 30,000 square kilometres and 8.5 million homes and businesses.
It will run for an initial six years from February 2026 with an option to extend for two 12-month periods.
Falco’s founder and Chairman, Brendan Griffin, was keen to pay tribute to the hard work of his team in building the company’s reputation for professionalism and reliability:
“I am delighted that we have been re-appointed to continue our work for UKPN,” he said, “While our commitment to customer service and sustainability are aspects of our service which have stood out more recently this achievement is largely built on the quality and consistency of the work our management and operational teams have delivered day-in, day out to support and collaborate with UK Power Networks over the last fifteen years.”
The tender was judged on price, quality and sustainability. Falco’s bid was scored highest overall with evaluators recognising the company’s track record of delivery, safety, sustainability and customer service.
Mark Simmons, head of Powercare at UK Power Networks, said: “Falco has been a long‑standing and valued partner in helping us keep power flowing safely and reliably for the communities we serve.
“Their commitment to high‑quality workmanship, responsiveness and continual improvement has consistently supported our operational teams across London, the South East and the East of England.
“We’re pleased to be renewing this relationship and look forward to continuing our work together to deliver safe, efficient and sustainable services.”
Falco has sustained an accident frequency rate of zero for the last 5 years assisted by a robust heath & safety management system featuring nearly 1500 site audits last year and over 3000 toolbox talks since June 2025.
The company has set a target to achieve net-zero operations by 2035 and introduced a number of initiatives to decarbonise operations including award-winning site trials of zero-emissions electric diggers.
Falco has worked on UK Power Networks infrastructure for over 15 years initially as a sub-contractor to, among others, Laing O’Rourke and Skanska. The company was awarded tier-1 contractor status in 2013 after winning a 4-year contract covering LPN. Four years later the company was appointed to provide planned and responsive services for EPN and has been the primary groundworks contractor for all three regions since 2022.
