Background

Alan has been an integral part of Falco’s development having joined the company in November 2008. His experience of a variety of practical disciplines from logistics to plant and resourcing gained during spells at various companies operating in infrastructure, utilities and engineering sectors has been invaluable to the firm’s growth.

Following a brief spell in Local Government Alan spent two years gaining experience in plant/equipment working at the trade counter for VJM Hire.

In 1989 he moved to waste management firm Powerday, where he was responsible for managing logistics, purchasing and stock control.

His utilities sector experience was gained during a 7-year spell at Thames Water subsidiary Subterra where he was responsible for the company’s procurement which included selection/monitoring of its supply chain partners, purchasing and hire of plant/equipment and fleet assets. A similar role for infrastructure company Highground Accord (Amey) preceded his move to Falco.

Responsibilities

Alan’s role as Support Services Manager gives him a wide remit. He takes a hands-on approach to the development and provision of all resources to support the operational function and has a track record for identifying creative ways to apply new technologies to drive commercial efficiency and sustainability throughout the company.

Specific responsibilities include the Falco’s logistics functions, procurement of human resources, plant/equipment and the selection and implementation of IT systems.

Alan has been deeply involved in the development of the company’s “One for All” information & business management portal which is designed to make business information & data available to all to aid timely decision-making & simplify multiple business processes.

Alan is heavily invested in the trial of the fully electric excavators which he has championed for several years & is justifiably proud that the initiative was recognised at the City of London Considerate Contractors Awards by winning the 2025 prize for Environmental Innovation.

Alan continues to look at ways to decarbonise our operations & is currently piloting a fully-electric set up where all equipment used by the teams is powered from renewable sources.
