Falco & UK Power Networks’ electric digger trial was recognised at the City of London’s Considerate Contractor Streetworks Scheme Awards. We won the prestigious Environment Award for the e-digger scheme which we have been trialing on UKPN projects for 8 months.
The collaboration between Falco Construction and UK Power Networks caught the judges’ eyes for its demonstration of innovation in environmental management.
The project has seen Falco use state-of-the-art Takeuchi TB20e fully-electric mini-excavators across UK Power Networks’ network areas throughout London and the South East.
The initiative has also been praised in the media and industry for pushing the boundaries of streetworks, by contributing to a cleaner, greener and quieter future of construction.
The zero-emission e-diggers could remove more than 200 tonnes of CO2e emissions from the atmosphere and improve air quality in areas where they work, when powered from renewable sources. The removal of not just CO2e, but Nitrous Oxide (NOx) and other particulates will greatly benefit operators’ and local communities’ air quality.
Mete Coban, London’s deputy mayor for environment and energy said: “The Mayor is committed to reducing toxic air pollution and reaching his ambitious goal of net-zero carbon by 2030. It’s great to see companies like UK Power Networks and Falco Construction leading the way and rolling out electric diggers.
“Technology like this will help to ensure Londoners, particularly those who live in the most deprived parts of London, can breathe cleaner air while also supporting our work to build a safer, greener London for everyone.”
