Mike Heaphy

Background

Mike has over 30 years’ experience working in the utilities sector and specifically groundworks to facilitate the maintenance and development of underground infrastructure for distribution network operators.

When he joined Falco as a Contracts Manager in September 2010 Mike already had 22 years of civils experience in the utility sector under his belt. His career started as a ganger working for J Murphy in 1988. In his 7 years there he worked his way up to foreman and site agent before joining MPB Limited.

In 1998 he took up a position at the Power Connect Division of McNicholas acting as an agent on a on term contract for Seeboard. A five year stint at J Browne Construction preceded a return to J Murphy where he was responsible for the civils aspect of cable installations and fault restorations.

Responsibilities

As Contracts Manager Mike takes overall responsibility for the delivery of Falco’s work for UKPN’s London and South Eastern Power Network contracts LPN and SPN. His responsibilities include:

  • Recruitment and training of operational staff
  • Selection and appointment of subcontractors
  • Day-to-day communications with all stakeholders incl client, site agents, residents etc
  • Attending contract progress meetings
  • Inspection and auditing of completed works

Mike has particular experience in manging standalone projects involving the installation of high-voltage cabling and assets. He recently oversaw a 6-month project to undertake the excavation, installation and backfill of two 11kv High Voltage circuits six 630 sqm XLPE electric cables for infrastructure specialist Dunamis. As well as managing our multi-disciplined operational team on-site Mike was responsible for coordinating a variety of stakeholders including representatives from the Local Council (Thurrock), Highways England, Network Management as well as scheduling NERS surveillance visits by Lloyds.
